2023 Collection

My collection represents the visualisation of internal emotions. Emotions are not just feelings, but the meaning we take froma given situation. To connect with our feelings crosses the complexities and realms of the physical and psychologicalessence within ourselves. This collection follows on from my 2022 collection, ‘I’m fine’, and explores the freedom within us all to connect at a deeperlevel.

Working with nature I have explored the 5 ‘elements’ wood, fire, water, earth and metal – these represent the physical, mental and energetic qualities of the human body and the physical world. The ebb and flow of these elements influence our physical, mental and emotional wellbeing. Balancing these elements through sleep, exercise, taking in energy from the environment and journalling.

It is our own bravery to connect with our emotions and to explore and evolve – this allows expression. As human ‘beings’ we don’t always stop to ‘be’ – our pace of life, confronting or acknowledging our fears or a myriad of other reasons may prevent us from taking those steps. There is a freedom to ‘feel’ There can be a joy in the transformation. To gain a balance and equilibrium can be liberating. In reference to Abraham Hicks – our vibrational stay should always be ‘joy, happiness and ease.’Who are we? What is our core the essence? We are constantly evolving and refining.Wood became the central ‘element’ of this collection. This element is one that seeks ways to grow and expand – it yields a very active energy that allows a lot of movement and progress both internally and externally – it heralds the beginning of life, springtime and buds , sensuality and fecundity. In Chinese medicine, wood is associated with negative feelings of anger and positive feelings of optimism, patience and altruism. The connections and fluidity within the pieces depict to me the many crossroads, junctions and journeys which affect our everyday lives.

The contrast of the rough and smooth surfaces within the pieces serve to highlight the differences during those experiences which give rise to the emotions we feel.Such commissions are about getting to know and to allow the person the freedom to opening up in such a way that enables the expression of their feelings and the translation into a conceptual art form which can be worn, held or simply viewed. Ihope in some instances it can be a form of healing. Each design is linked with one of the Ayuveda emotions and seeks to promote balance.
